Tianzige (田字格)

A square divided into four quadrants by a solid cross — the foundational grid for writing Chinese characters. It tells you where each stroke should start and finish.

How to use it

  1. Treat the horizontal line as the character's waist and the vertical line as its centre.
  2. Check left-right balance against the vertical line.
